Cape Coral/Fort Myers #2 on “Ten Places Everyone’s Moving to in 2017”
By Ethan Maas (Project Manager, Dreamscape Realty)

A story caught my eye this morning during my coffee/social media session. (a well-known destination to those familiar with the real estate business) released their “Top Ten Cities Everyone’s Moving to In 2017”.  Guess what was number 2 on that list?  That’s right, the Cape Coral/Fort Myers area.  I was initially shocked by this because although there is plenty to do on the SW Florida coast I had assumed most of the growth was in one of the larger ‘population centers’ close by (ie. Tampa Bay or Miami). As I pondered my personal experiences with the area and did a bit more research, it did become clear why the Lee County area is one of the best places to live in the U.S. in 2017.

To begin with, Florida has ZERO state income tax: that’s an immediate attraction for any working-class person looking to relocate.  Plus, there is plenty of property available of every shape, size, and price range on the Southwest Coast; and lots of fun activities to engage in once you get settled! Great food choices are abundant as are nice public parks & shopping centers; several beaches and islands are within thirty minutes’ driving time, there is a casino within an hour, and the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area is just a two hour jump across Alligator Alley.

One factor unique to the Fort Myers economy is that both the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins conduct spring training camps here.  When they come to town (along with the snowbirds escaping a bitter Northern winter), the tremendous boost to local markets can be observed with the naked eye.  Retail, leisure, and lodging all become a bit more competitive- making it even more of a hot spot to own a vacation or rental home!

If none of that interests you and you’re more of a ‘long-term trends’ type of person, keep in mind that Lee County has the fourth highest job growth in the nation- in several sectors but especially in real estate and the service industry. I lived there for two years and am still very familiar with the area (after all, I help service our Lee County portfolio!)- I can tell you that this is definitely the case.  There are multitudes of opportunities in this area for the discerning entrepreneur and investor.

I hope that was the least bit informative: now comes my sales pitch of course. Whether you’re searching for a small condo with beautiful views near the beach, a more cost-effective single family home inland with room to grow, or a mansion in a gated community with a pool & boat dock in the backyard; you can rest assured that somebody’s selling some real estate that fits your needs, and you might as well choose Dreamscape- we can offer you a great deal AND great service for all your South Florida real estate needs! Search the Florida MLS via our free IDX search bar, or browse our listings here.  We have property available of every variety- whether you’re looking for new construction or a beautiful older home that has been renovated and restored.  There’s plenty of land and more room for growth in the Lee County area- I’ve seen it myself. Take advantage of it before everybody else does. Also- COMING SOON- we have plenty of excellent rentals (both monthly and yearly) we are about to list if you’re looking to rent instead of purchase- we’re great landlords, I promise.
