Sweating your upcoming home inspection? No need to stress any longer. Check out these tips courtesy of Florida Realtor Magazine (PLus other real estate professionals around the country).
Preparing for a home inspection
There's no need to make your upcoming home inspection any more difficult than it has to be. You can conduct your own preliminary "10-Minute Walkthrough" using our handy guide as a starting point, or simply recall a few guidelines, such as:
Check that all sinks, toilets, faucets, and smoke detectors are working properly and are not leaking or malfunctioning.
Clear any debris from the exterior of the home, and make sure access points to appliances (especially water heaters and septic tanks) are freely accessible. This will expedite the process and make things easier for the inspector to gather the information he requires.
Put together a brief property history document of any renovations and improvements that have been made to the home.
Double-check all appliances, fans, light switches, and other relevant electronic devices.
Plan to be out of the house for a few hours while the inspector works. Go enjoy a hike, a meal, or a film with your free time!
