Your Handpicked Southwest Florida Concert Update, March 2018
The season is in full swing in Southwest Florida, and with that comes more live concerts and events to go out and see! Here are four noteworthy concerts in Fort Myers and Bonita Springs in March 2018. Based on my research it looks like there's something for rock, blues, country, and folk fans. Check these out!
BoDeans- March 8, SW Florida Event Center, Bonita Springs
I recently had the privilege of seeing these guys back in my latest ‘adopted hometown’ of Birmingham, Alabama. BoDeans played an intimate show for around 100 fans at WorkPlay Theater. I was not extremely familiar with their music other than a couple of songs but I found the show to be really enjoyable. Lead vocalist/guitarist Kurt Neumann told stories and jokes between songs as the band took the audience through a tour of their material which spans three decades. Whether you’re new to their catalogue like I was or a huge fan of the band, you’d do well to check out this concert for two reasons: 1. The music is good and 2. BoDeans are an American institution. Hailing from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the band released their 13th studio album in 2016. That’s dedication! After their Bonita Springs gig on March 8, they’re headed to Key West on the 9th and are finishing their Florida tour at the Funky Biscuit in Boca Raton on March 10.
Closing Trivia: If you watched television in the 90’s, you’ve heard Bodeans. Their hit “Closer to Free” was the theme song for the show “Party of Five”.
Bonita Blues Festival- March 9-10, Riverside Park, Bonita Springs
Enjoy good tunes in the sunshine this weekend at Riverside Park off of US-41 in Bonita Springs. The Bonita Blues Festival is bringing quality blues acts to fill the air with music: including Little Freddie King, Hurricane Ruth, Karen Lovely & Friends, Altered Five Blues Band, and more Food, beer, wine, and craft vendors will all be on site to ensure attendees remain refreshed and relaxed throughout the day. Weekend passes are $60 for both days and the Blues Festival also has day passes available. Music starts at 1:30pm on Friday and 11:30am on Saturday and will continue all day.
Closing Trivia: This will be the 12th annual Bonita Blues Festival!
Aaron Lewis- March 14, The Ranch, Fort Myers
Rocker-turned-country-star Aaron Lewis brings his act to The Ranch in Fort Myers on Wednesday, March 14. He recently released his sophomore album entitled Sinner which was inspired by the classic Outlaw Country made famous by Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and of course Mr. Cash. VIP tables are sold out but there are still General Admission tickets available for around 40 bucks a pop. If you’re into rowdy, gritty country rock, you’ll enjoy Mr. Lewis’s show.
Closing Trivia: Lewis got his start in the music business as the lead vocalist in the successful post-grunge band Staind before breaking into the country music scene.
Jason Mraz (Solo Acoustic)- March 19, FSW, Fort Myers
Florida Southwestern State College hosts Jason Mraz at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall. The talented two-time Grammy winner will be performing a solo acoustic concert in what is sure to be an intimate show on campus. There are still some tickets left for around 70 bucks but the show may sell out. Looks like Mr. Mraz still has no trouble bringing audiences out to see him!
Closing Trivia: Released in 2002, his album Waiting for my Rocket to Come featured his breakout single “The Remedy” as well as several other well-charting singles. These propelled him from the California coffee-house circuit to the center of U.S. singer/songwriter stardom.
