If you see an event I missed, tell us in the comments! Be sure to tune in soon for late-May picks as well. (While you're in the area, you could also join us for an open house if you're looking to make a move!)
George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic- May 3, Bonita Springs
George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic have had a longevity that is quite impressive: they've been a fixture of the American music scene since the 1960's. P-Funk's style relied on a hodgepodge of science fiction, humor, and psychedelic culture to cultivate their unique take on the funk genre. More of a musical collective than a conventional 'band', Parliament Funkadelic has featured a revolving cast of all-star musicians from around the world, including Bootsy Collins and the late Bernie Worrell. The current incarnation of Parliament Funkadelic heads to Florida fresh off of playing several April tour dates including headlining the annual Major Rager to kick off the Masters in Augusta, GA. Furthermore, Mr. Clinton recently announced his retirement from touring, making this show more of a must-see than it already was.
The concert will take place at the Southwest Florida Event Center. Click here for more information and tickets.
Genres Explored: Funk, Pop, Soul, Psychedelick Rock
Little Big Town- May 5, Estero
Like the above mentioned P-Funk, Little Big Town has also worked hard to get where they are. They've had same lineup since they formed in 1998 and have been touring steadily since at least 2006. Hailing from Homewood, AL (about fifteen minutes away from where I sit penning this blog), this group of friends found success with their second album "The Road To Here" and have released five more studio records since then. Strong vocal chops that many times rely on four-part harmonies set these guys & gals apart from the crowd. They'll be bringing their own personal brand of a good time to Germain Arena in Estero on Saturday, May 5. Tickets range from $25-$60 and can be found here along with additional information.
Genres explored: Country, Vocal, Folk
